This November, adidas Originals launched a limited collection of blockchain-based virtual wearables, released as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The 16-piece ‘Virtual Gear’ collection, represents a creative and cultural milestone in the 73 year history of ‘the three stripes’.
This is a digitally-native collection for a digitally-native audience – the brand’s first NFT collection of wearables, which is a new, interoperable product category adidas calls ‘Virtual Gear’.
It is led by Erika Wykes-Sneyd and the adidas /// studio (or ‘Three Stripes Studio’); and identifiable by the sideways trefoil.
The launch accelerates adidas Originals’ drive towards strengthening its community-based, member-first, open metaverse strategy.
DRESSX added AR functionality to two pieces from this collection - the “ADIDAS C2172” and “P.F.D - Personal Flotation Device”, which represent both future-focused design interpretations and playful nods to the boundless possibilities of metaverse worlds.
