Melisa Cilli is a fashion and 3D designer based in London. Her debut collection for DressX “Lunar Travellers” imagines the possibility to travel anywhere, unconstrained by the normal limits of our reality. The collection was inspired by Anatolian garments and the geometric decorations of Anatolian art. Most of the decorative art elements of ancient Anatolian civilizations come from the Moon and the stars. The designer splitted the Anatolian geometric artworks into their elements and merged them again, giving her digital garments a modern twist and developing a collection in which you could travel to the Moon and stars.
Atlas was inspired by the kaftans worn historically in Anatolia. Kaftans are a type of outerwear that were both functional and emblematic of the wearer’s status. The finest fabrics, and embellishments of striking embroidery, were used to make you stand out from the crowd.
Atlas is made of lustrous digital double georgette silk, with a layer of transparent digital silk chiffon on the back. The hexagons, the three spheres and the six-pointed star, are classical symbols used in Anatolian weaving.
