Ogata Korin, born in Kyoto, was a Japanese artist of the Tokugawa period. Korin’s father and grandfather owned Kariganeya, a prosperous store dealing with fabrics for kimonos that was patronized by some of the most powerful ladies of the capital. This artist is particularly famous for his screen paintings, lacquer work, and textile designs.
