This pendant is inspired by leopard hip ornaments of the people of Benin Kingdom. Within the ancient culture of the Nigerian Benin empire, which thrived from the 15th through the 19th century, the leopard hip ornament was given by the Oba (King) to Benin warriors as a symbol of authority to carry out executions.
