Sweatshirt The Starry Night

$30.00 USD

Vincent Van Gogh (1853 – 1890)

Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh is one of the most expensive and influential figures in the history of art. Nevertheless, he had an absolutely tragic life. He didn’t become a priest like he wanted, he was poor and officially mad – van Gogh spent time in psychiatric hospitals, cut his left ear after a confrontation with his friend Paul Gaugin, and committed suicide at 37 years. But all the way long he was an undeniable genius. He created about 2000 artworks – landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and self-portraits with his signature bold colors and impulsive brushwork.

The Starry Night

Saint Rémy, 1889

The Starry Night painting was inspired by the view from the window at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Southern France, where van Gogh spent a year seeking reprieve from his mental illnesses. In the depiction of the night sky we can see Venus at center left and the bright moon at the right.
